Day 7 June 20, 2008

Well, today I became an aunt again! My sister and brother-in-law had twins. I got the news on the way to the Coors brewery, well actually making our way through the back streets and state penetentary to the brewery. I was a bit preoccupied about not getting lost...we savored the moment by toasting the new parents!

Before we went to the brewery, we visited the Argo Mining Tour. Things move a bit slower up here, so the 1.5 hour tour turned into about 3 hours! We had very thorough lesson about rocks and ore. We walked about 300 feet into the Golden Eagle mine, learned the history of the Argo Tunnel and meandered through the processing mill. Then the fun began as the city folk got to pan for gold! The kids all found some gold flakes resting in black sand at the bottom of the pan.

We also found many examples of Leverite--as in Leave It Right There! Cole loves rocks but I don't love finding them in the washing machine!

We dined at the Buffalo for lunch. Bill and Mark ate buffalo burgers, but seemed a bit disappointed that they did taste all that different from beef.

Running out of time, we opted for the short tour of Coors Brewery--the gift shop and the free samples. We are going back today so Bill can have the entire tour (and more samples)

Our evening only got better when we went to our friends' house. We have been anxious to see Chris and Monica and the kids. Julie and Mark and their kids came over too. It is so fun to see the Three Amigos together. Even though I have known them all 20 years, I still find out about some of the mischief they got into!

Chris and the kids are going to join us for some fun tomorrow. Julie and Mark start the long drive home today. Denver to Mesquite--put the hammer down Markie!
