Day 5 June 18, 2008

Today was our big train day! We drove from Alamosa to Antonito to catch the 10 o'clock train to Chama, New Mexico. The depots weren't as well developed as Durango and things weren't quite as professionally done, however, the day was great.

Our car was similar to the Durango ride. The one great thing was the open air gondola that was open for anyone to stand on. Bill spent much of his time there. The ride went through various types of terrain. It is the longest and highest train in the U.S. We got to Cumbre Pass, which was 10,000 feet! There was a lot of snow along the way. This railway was used in various movies including Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

We had a nice family style meal. The altitude didn't agree with Nolan. We almost had to have him take a few breaths off the oxygen tank! Luckily, the color came back to his cheeks and we were fine.

We FINALLY had a great dinner at Harleez. Bill's brisket was AWESOME!

The boys left quite a ring around the tub with all the coal dust.
